Research Field

Prof. Kang has actively engaged in research on transportation planning and management in recent years. His main academic achievements include: (1) effectively solving the coordination problem for the operation of the first and last trains in urban rail transit networks; (2) combined with road traffic congestion, solving the problem of real-time dispatching of bus drivers and vehicles; and (3) systematically solving the joint problem of tracks and turnouts in railway stations, which improves the passing-through capacity of station throats. Around the above research contents, he has published over 40 papers in the top journals such as Transportation Research Part B and Transportation Research Part C (SCI citations 467, H-index 12). Besides, Prof. Kang is a PI of two NSFC projects and is supported by the "Young Science & Technology Talents" of the Ministry of Transport and the "Youth Talent Promotion Project" of the China Association of Science and Technology. Based on the strategic outline of strengthening China's transportation industry, Prof. Kang will focus on the optimization methods of comprehensive transportation in large cities in the following years and aim to propose the theory and methods that can be applied to the real dispatching problems in public transport, further improving the reliability, rapidity and service level of public transportation in metropolises.
